The Only Moment We Were Alone
This is the beginning of a piece I’m writing for my Creative Writing class. I got inspiration from a song by Explosions in the Sky. I’ve always thought about the story behind the song (even though it’s instrumental)… so I decided to write about it.
It was the only moment we were alone.
Not alone in the traditional sense. But alone in a sense that the world spun round and...

Off to a great start this semester.
I thought I didn’t have class until 2PM today.
Realized this morning I had one at 9AM.
Great first impression.

Good stuff.
“All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring; Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king.”

Imagery
I’m obsessed with the first whole chapter of Their Eyes Were Watching God, but this passage would have to be my favorite. It’s describing the “homecoming” of a mysterious woman named Janie, who everyone loves gossiping about (because they’re secretly jealous).
The people all saw her come because it was sundown. The sun was gone, but he had left his footprints in...

"Shake the Dust"
My favorite lines from Anis Mojgani’s poem “Shake the Dust”.
So grab this world by its clothespins and shake it out again and again and jump on top and take it for a spin and when you hop off shake it again for this is yours.
Make my words worth it, make this not just another poem that I write, not just another poem like just another night that sits heavy above us all.
Walk...

Friendship bracelet craze
I go on a crafty-craze every summer. This summer, I came across a friendship bracelet tutorial HERE and went crazy. Embroidery thread is so cheap, so I bought loads of it to start making some bracelets. The first few bracelets I made were so sloppy I had to throw them out. However, I now have a collection of 11 well-made bracelets! AND I plan on making lots more before the fall :) Here are some...

On retirement homes
I’ve spent a large majority of time in a retirement home so far this summer. It’s my job, so of course it kind of sucks. And sometimes I want to quit. But there are some things there that keep me going… give me that extra smile or laugh I need. So I decided to list them off.
1. TRUE LOVE. There’s one couple there that has been married for 60 years. They will both cry if...

Lyrics worthy of a tumble
“It’s a pretty good night for a drive,
so dry up those eyes, dry up those eyes. Because the radio will still play loud, songs that we heard as our guards came down. Like in the summertime when we first met, I’ll never forget, don’t you forget, these nights are still ours.” - The Gaslight Anthem
“If everything i meant to you, you can lick and seal then...

Analogies rock
So, I’ve found the perfect analogy for my current situation with finals.
It’s a beautiful, summer day and I’m on a boat in the middle of the ocean trying to catch a fish for dinner. I was fine at first, but I have become very frustrated and worn out. I am trying every kind of bait (motivation) possible, but nothing is working. I look back to shore all throughout the day and see...

A Midnight Craving
I’m craving home. Craving that green grass in front of my house in the summer. That green grass that I’ve run through hundreds of times. Laid in under the sun and under the stars. Flopped in after a long day of work. The way it looks at sunset against my blue house.
Craving that swinging screen door with the rip in it. That swinging door that always squeaks when I open it after a...

LOLOL
Dear Katy Perry,
Last night I dreamt I was riding on a unicorn through Narnia in search of the ultimate cheese puffs. Then my friend’s brother showed up and we did the YMCA. After that I woke up.
Sincerely, real teenage dream.

On hearing thunder...
There’s something incredibly comforting about thunder. I can’t exactly pinpoint it. I think it’s a reminder of my insignificance… but in a good way. It reminds me that there are bigger things out there. There’s something bigger than this silly paper I’m writing for adolescent psychology. There’s something bigger than my stress. Bigger than any...

Feeling British
Tonight I am watching The King’s Speech with my London crew. It’s also somewhat cloudy outside. Therefore, I am feeling British. Therefore, I am also feeling some Keats. Here are some Keats-isms to brighten (but not really) this cloudy, London day.
“Do you not see how necessary a world of pains and troubles is to school an intelligence and make it a soul?”
